Adventure Challenge Programs
for At Risk Youth
The Stone Nature Center adventure
challenge course began in the 1980's as a
tool for working with at risk youth in out of
home care.  It quickly expanded to working
with youth from schools, scouts and
camps.

The  adventure challenge program  helps
build self esteem in troubled youth and to
promote better social relationships and
communication skills.

The staff have extensive training and
experience working with this challenging
population .   In the past, the course has
been used as a treatment tool for youth in
drug intervention, sex offenders, and
incarcerated youth.

Experienced staff can customize the
challenge course activities to meet the
specified goals of each group.  In working
with at risk youth, the staff will emphasize:

  • accepting personal responsibility
  • respect for self and others
  • developing self control
  • responsible behavior to others
  • identifying personal strengths
  • setting goals and following through

Supervising staff are required to attend the
course with each group.  Group size is
limited to 14 individuals including staff.

The Stone Nature Center's adventure
challenge course has an outstanding
record of safety and meets the standards
set by the Association of Challenge Course
Technology.
